Founded in 2004 by Pamela "Brandy" Sanders and her husband Stanley Sanders, affectionately known as "Auntee Brandy" and "Unc", the couple embarked on this project after losing their own granddaughter to the foster care system.  "Kierrah" is their granddaughter for which the foundation is named.  Through the couples' work with the homeless and the less fortunate in the city of Los Angeles they begin to notice that many of the young women on the streets of Los Angeles had recently aged out of the system and some of them often ending up on the streets almost immediately after leaving a foster home or a group home.  The Sanders begin to wonder what happens to these young women from day to day and how they could help.  With love, understanding and determination, The Kierrah Foundation was born.

"When I turned 18, I was all alone with nobody to turn to.

I met Auntee Brandy and Unc and the other former foster girls

from The Kierrah Foundation.  Now for the first time in my life,

I can say I have a family."

I thank The Kierrah Foundation for making my birthday an occasion I will

WHY ARE WE DIFFERENT?

The young women we serve are among what is commonly known as the "throw away kids".  They have been in numerous foster homes and/or group homes and alienated from their family and friends.  Most of the young women we serve have been physically, sexually and emotionally abuse while in the foster care system.

We are a "Foundation on Foot" that deliver services directly to "our girls".  We do not sit back and wait on young women to come to us.  We  visit homeless camps, missions, soup kitchens and anywhere we think there may be a former foster girl who is in need of our assistance.  We  deliver bus passes, new clothing, blankets, hygiene kits and quite often we deliver pocket change just so a young woman can buy herself something nice.  But most importantly we deliver love and encouragement.

The Kierrah Foundation's ultimate goal is to provide unique and creative services to each former foster girl that we serve.  We help these young women to identify their uniqueness and we also develop a customized life-plan for each of them to follow.  We are dedicated to providing full-services for each woman individually to insure that all their needs are met and they have the tools they need to take control of their own lives.   We encourage them to learn how to advocate for themselves and others who will come after them.

We do not serve the masses.  The Kierrah Foundation is dedicated to making sure that each young woman unique needs are met and our aim is to exposed these young women to every opportunity available to them for a better life for themselves.

OUR POLICY

The Kierrah Foundation is a Freestanding Non-Profit Organization.

The Kierrah Foundation will take no funding from the state or government system, will not partner with or organize alongside, will not consult with, confer or carry on a regular dialogue with any foster care system or its affiliates.  The Kierrah Foundation is an autonomous non-profit organization whose sole purpose is to serve the needs of OUR GIRLS who age out of the foster care system and does not act to influence or act upon that system in any way.  We feel this is necessary to remain autonomous from the system itself and be a fresh start for these young women.  We do not want them to percieve The Kierrah Foundation as "more of the same" and be deterred from receiving the help we can offer.
